The Inspector Instructor Sergeant Major of 1st Battalion, 24th Marines was sacked following an investigation.
Sgt. Maj. Demitris A. Hye was relieved by by Brigadier General Michael S. Martin “due to a loss of trust and confidence,” Col. Ted Wong, a spokesman with Marine Forces Reserve, told Marine Corps Times in an emailed statement.
The Corps offered few details surrounding Hye’s abrupt firing.
“The investigation found that Sgt. Maj. Hye failed to uphold the high standards we expected of him,” Wong said.
Following the investigation, more punishments could be on the line, but Wong said it would be “premature” to speculate on any further disciplinary actions.
“However, service members who break the law will be accountable for their actions,” he said.
Hye only recently was promoted to sergeant major, on Sept. 1.
He also is a veteran of the Iraq war, and entered the Corps in 1998.
“Marine Forces Reserve takes the responsibilities of our Marine leaders seriously,” Wong said.
